Check engine light stays on as well as check fuel fill inlet message. Obd code shows small emissions leak. The check engine light will occasionally disappear on its own and the check fuel fill inlet message will also go away, but both always reappear eventually. This car has the capless fuel inlet.

I smelled gasoline every time i filled up. I took the car to a ford dealer and they found the gas tank had a crack on the top. It was actually dripping gas near the exhaust system. Dealer said tank needed to be replaced. Quoted a price of $1200 just for the tank. Dealer found a used tank. Total cost was $638. Dealer refused to call ford to see if they would cover part of the cost. Car had 93,000 miles on it.
